Although sped up playback quality has improved over time with the Audible app
for iDevices, the last time I made a comparison it was still not as good as the
VR Stream or the Audible app for Android. And it is not as good as the quality
of sped up playback with BARD Mobile.

I use Format 4. This is because I don't care about having stereo in an Audio
book, and format 4 is a good deal smaller file size.

When I used to listen to books using a VR Stream I used a speed which figured
out to be somewhat shy of 1.75 times normal. Occasionally with a faster reader
I would turn that down to about 1.5 times normal. When I started speeding up
playback in the Audible app, I began with a setting close to what I used with
the Stream, but quickly found that I needed to turn it down to about 1.25 times
normal so that the sound was acceptable.

How good playback sounds when sped up depends on a number of things. For
example, original recording quality, whether or not the Audible book was
up-converted from a lower quality format, and how good is the code that does
the speed up for playback.

With the Audible app for iOS I think I can stand speeding up playback to about
1.5 for newer books, but I've just gotten accustomed to listening at 1.25 times
normal and tend to just leave it there.
