Hi Anna,
No, I can't say I'm sure how the settings work other than when I went back into them, the standard instead of the high quality format was checked. I personally am not convinced these settings do anything because I thought I had read on some Audible communiqué that high quality was required when running on an iPhone. I downloaded the book at least twice with the download settings at high quality and at standard and the download size reported for both during the process was the same. I'm just going to leave it set for standard download quality and be happy with the sound no higher than 1.25X. Thanks to all for the comments on this thread. The book should be less than half the original size, as enhanced quality is 26 mb/hour, while format 4 is 14 mb/hour. Both settings had a download size of 453MB. I find this more than a little curious. I haven't compared the two directly, but my guess is that the system would have an easier time speeding up the smaller files, and since they're mono, the effect isn't likely to be as noticeable. Format 4 sounds fine for books that have a single narrator. My download settings are for the highest quality and for one part per book. I think my Audible books sound great when listening at the 1X narration speed but when I move it higher such as to 1.25X or 1.5X, I notice a definite change in the audio quality. It sounds a bit as if the narrator is in a well. The degradation is not extreme but it is noticeable and I was wondering if others on the list have experienced this. If anyone has a workaround or suggestions on dealing with the issue, I'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance.
