If you want a cheaper Uber ride, they have an option called Uber Pool, which is
a shared ride where you might have another rider sharing the car. The fare is
about a third less than an Uber X fare. Most of the time I have had direct
rides, and never more than one other rider.

Hi Keith,

As others have said, the app will charge your credit card automatically at the
end of the ride. You will see a request to rate your driver and your receipt
presented on a screen within the app shortly after the ride is complete. You
should also receive a copy of your receipt via Email. As far as tipping, the
idea is that you are not required to tip, and I have never had a driver even so
much as ask for one. However, I do think it’s a pretty common practice to toss
a buck or two their way if you are satisfied with the ride, but again, there
should be no expectation or requirement to do so. Pretty much every driver I
get at least acts pleasantly surprised to receive any kind of a tip, and
whether genuine or not, it makes me (as the rider) feel good. <grin>

And yes, one of the ways Uber and Lyft differ from taxies is that they do not
charge you per rider. So whether you are riding alone, or have four good
buddies with you, the fair is the same. In fact, they have a feature available
from within the app to split the fair among riders if you wish.

I’ll be honest, I tend to be in the camp of riders that prefers not to give
advanced warning about the fact I have a service dog. My own experience has
taught me that if I give them any impression whatsoever that they have the
option of ditching out of the ride before actually having to talk to me
face-to-face, the odds of being denied go up dramatically. But having said
that, I have *never* been denied access by any Uber driver. I know there is a
lot of effort put forth by blind folks to run the company into the ground based
on some bad experiences, the same bad experiences that could and do occur with
so many other companies, but I feel like it’s important to recognize that there
isn’t really some big conspiracy to shut out the blind people, and acknowledge
that there are many very good, kind drivers out there who abide by the rules on
a daily basis. In fact, I have had at least one driver who made it very clear,
in very polite terms mind you, that he does not now, and has never liked dogs,
but he said he still has respect for service dogs and their ability to help
people, and he also knows he is required to transport them regardless of his
preferences. I was very impressed by his candor and ability to set aside his
personal preferences for the sake of his job and respect for others. But
whether or not you choose to notify the driver ahead of time is up to you of
course, and you can contact the driver directly via the app I believe.

The fixed tip thing in Uber is only for actual taxis that some cities let
you book with Uber. Otherwise, there is no tip option.

As far as the dog, while in theory, you and your service animal are
protected udner the ADA, in practice, you may find the reality to be totally

different. Maybe the best way to avoid any unpleasant issues or drivers when

it comes to the dog is to have your profile photo of you and your dog all
harnessed and ready to go. At least this way, whoever accepts your fair when

you put out a request should at the very least be aware that you have a
  guide.
I know with Lyft, you can at the end of the ride when rating the driver also

tip a set amount or enter in an amount you deem fit. I haven't used Uber in
a while, but don’t' recall this being an option in the app. I believe you
can set a fixed tip amount within your profile page online. I don’t' know if

that's ideal in case you get a rude or crappy driver, but there you go.

At the end of the ride, the app automatically charges your credit card.
There is no way to add a tip. If your city offers lift, that app does offer
that capability. As far as a dog, while trying to stay on topic for this
list, I admit that I am not one to inform the driver ahead of time. Uber
does have some issues with refusing to take dog users, I am of the opinion
that is their problem. The charge is for the entire ride, not per person.

    Hi,

I've got my app all set up and I'm ready to go.

Can someone please explain to me what happens, or what I need to do, at
the end of the ride to make the payment? How can I add a tip?

If my wife and I take the ride, the price is for the ride, and not per
    person, right?

If I'm travelling alone with my guide dog, I'm wondering if anyone has run

into problems with this, or what is the best way to let the driver know
    ahead of time.

    Thanks in advance. Keith
