Paul, The batteries that drive our iDevices and other electronics all have an mAh rating. From Google, "mAh stands for milli Ampere hour or milli Amp hour. It is a measure of a battery's energy storage capacity. If you think of a battery as a small fuel storage tank, which in a sense it is, mAh is a measure of how much 'fuel' the battery holds."
You should find out what mAh rating your device has and when you purchase an external battery pack, check its mAh rating so you'll know how many times it will charge your device by dividing the mAh rating on the external battery by the mAh rating of your device.
