I did hear it do it once or twice, but it got interrupted by an unrelated poi
announcement. I wonder how you repeat the street info if the message rolled by
that quickly? What I want is something that when you get to a larger span of
going straight that it would say in the text directions for route planning,
cross these streets and turn left or right on whatever. I am partially familiar
with some area, but getting off at random bus stops is another issue.

  Hi Linda.

Seeing Eye GPs sort of does this however its a somewhat unintentional feature
I believe grin!

I notice when walking around the streets of New York city that it will tell
me the direction of the traffic flow when we reach an intersection. For example
IF I am walking south on 9th Avenue and I approach 55th street it will say 55th
street left to right or something to that affect.

This means the trafic flows east to west and when I reach 54th street it
says 54th street right to left because the traffic flows west to east on that
sstreet opposite of the street before.

It doesn't however tell you about two way streets such as 57th street where
traffic flows in both directions.

I haven't used the app in a very long time so maybe I will give it another
try to refresh my memory since you brought this up.

I do believe it is a useful feature providing you really understand yor
neighborhood and traffic flow patterns but I am truly not sure the developers
actually intended this to happen or allowed it to be realized fully.

  Don

I’m not sure if Blind Square gives you options. I did use it yesterday. All

I will ask my mobility instructor tomorrow if there is an app that will
give information about one-way streets.

I do have the Seeing Eye app, which gives good directions some of the time,
but I want something similar to Mapquest where I can see the other possible
routes, in the event that one of the streets are 1-way or otherwise unable to
be used. Also, I want to know ahead of time what streets I would cross in that
0.2 or whatever mile span.

      Hi Brent,

I have you tried Blind Square? I just used it yesterday for the first
time. I think if you put the address in for the building where your ATM is
located, you are then able to save it in favorites and get walking directions.

I had the announcements set to read me all information available through
the app. I received information for residential street addresses and
businesses. I have not tried setting a route to a particular place.

Hi there! I found that Seeing Eye doesn't always give me enough
information about the route I'm trying to do, or gives me a route to go the
wrong way on a 1-way street, or to use that street at a location it doesn't go
through. I just tried downloading Mapquest to see what routes are possible to
go to a location where my ATM access would be free. I don't want to pay $4 at
the other place I found. When I put in the address of where I want to go, and
it makes up a route, I hit the list button so I can read all the directions.
How do I get the other routes I can use? I tried their website, and I can't
figure out how to get it to switch to walking directions, and highways just
don't work when you're blind. I've always been shown routes I needed to know by
whatever O&M instructor I had, but my VR counselor expects me to be able to
take the bus anywhere it goes in town without the instructor's help. I can't
seem to get the transit person to stay on the phone long enough and explain all
the rest of the directions, as they want me to do, and holding up the bus once
we arrive to try getting it from the driver is bad. Is there a better site or
app I could use to figure out alternate routes, and to know exactly what
streets I would be crossing when it says "Go 0.3 miles on Pine Street and turn
left on Adams" if I don't already know them.
