I'm not sure what you mean by the audio descriptions are an after thought.
Audio pass streamed the radio broadcasts heard in the local markets. I
don't think this is an after thought. They're the same radio broadcasts
anyone in the local market would hear, whether they're blind or sighted.
If you mean including radio broadcasts in the same package as the video
broadcasts, instead of splitting them out separately, then although I'd
like to see this happen myself, I suspect it wasn't so much an
afterthought as instead a way of consolidating the delivery mechanism
into one implementation. I personally plan on letting the NFL know that
I'd rather pay for an audio only option, like we had with AudioPass, and
I may be passing on the video package. Maybe if the NFL gets enough such
feedback, they'll include an audio only option in the streaming package.
If you're saying that the audio you get during a game is an afterthought
then I'd disagree. They broadcasted an NFL game with no audio a few
years ago, and it was a total flop. People, including sighted people,
like the real time analysis of the game that you get during a TV
broadcast. For me, I don't find the radio announcers so good or the TV
announcers so bad that listening to a game on TV is a waste of my time
as compared to a radio broadcast. I can usually follow a game just fine
on TV, and I'll often listen to a nationally televised game of my
favorite team when it's shown in my area over the homers on the radio
broadcast.

My wife is telling me go ahead and buy the hundred dollar package if it gets
you the audio content. I'm not going to do it. I didn't have a problem with
the audiopass at 40 bucks. But when you insist on getting a more expensive
package because most people want the video and the audio descriptions are at
best an after thought, no way.

I agree. If I can't get the radio play-by-play, then forget it.

Listening to football on the TV is a waste of time. You hear the croud cheer
and the announcer says would you look at that! He's up to the 27 yard line.
That was one heck of a run. You don't hear thing one about how the team lines
up etc. For me, watching NFL football on TV is useless.

No, 40 bucks isn’t bad, but if you don’t care about the TV broadcasts, then $99
is a ripoff just for the audio feeds.

Actually, last season I had the full audiopass. I could listen to any team as
well as choose which feed I wanted either from the home team or from the
visitors broadcast. Of course when my bears werre playing, I listened to the
bears broadcast team but it was fun to listen to the home or away teams. I had
the full package which let me listen starting with preseason through the super
bowl and I didn't think 40 bucks was bad.

I did read the page, and in particular, the audio section where it said:
Listen live to every NFL game - including the Playoffs and Super
Bowl 50
Also, the old AudioPass subscription required an additional upgrade to get the
playoff games.

If you read the details on that page, in particular the section after platforms
with the asterisk, it specifically says it does not include regular season live
broadcasts, or the super bowl.
It also does not mention iOS devices though it says it is coming soon to Apple
TV.

If you follow the link below, there's still a section on audio.

It is my understanding that NFL.COM has dropped audio pass. i was
told this by several of my football fan friends. I have been a
subscriber for years, and was curious as to why I didn't receive
my normal annual renewal notice. Also, there is no longer any
link for Audio Pass on the NFL.COM site. i guess it's gone.

Subject: Audio in NFL Mobile
Hi,
With another football season about to start, I'm curious if
anyone has figured out how to play your audio pass subscription
in the mobile version of the NFL app? Playing around with this
little bit this afternoon, I'm not finding a way to start the game audio.
