Worked like a charm. ----- Original Message ----- From: Sieghard Weitzel To: [email protected] Sent: Sunday, August 16, 2015 8:14 PM Subject: RE: Downgrading App
Hi Gary, Unfortunately syncing apps to the phone from iTunes is somewhat broken in the latest few iTunes versions. It is still possible, but the main list of apps which you can choose from doesn’t read properly anymore, although I don’t know how other screenreaders handle it. You didn’t say if you use a Mac or PC, all I can give you are some pointers for a PC with the latest version of Jaws. Anyhow, first of all, you of course have to connect your phone to the PC, then open iTunes and go to your device section. I assume you know how to do this so I won’t explain it in more detail, if you don’t know just email me directly and I can try to give you more detailed information. Once you activate the “iPhone” button in iTunes, tab a few times until you get to the treeview which starts with “Summary”, all you have to do is arrow down once to “Apps”. Now tab four times and you should be in a search edit field which Jaws announces as “Search Apps”. Write the name or part of the name of the app you want to sync to your phone. As an example, I just typed “Dream” into the search box. You don’t have to press enter or anything, just tab out of the search box, the next thing you land on should be a “Clear search text” button. Tab again and Jaws should say “Apps table list view”. Tab again and Jaws will now say (in my example) “Apps table list box, Voice Dream Reader, read only”. Tab again and Jaws will announce the size of the app, it will always say “Apps table listview”, then the information (the size in this case in Mb) and then “read only”. Now the next tab takes you to where you want to be. If the app in question is not installed on your iPhone, you will now come to the “Install” button. If the app is already on your phone, that button will be a “Remove” button. Activate the install button by pressing the spacebar, now unfortunately focus will jump somewhere but if you tab a bunch of times again and find the item again, the button will now say “Will Install”. This means you have now selected the app to be installed/synced. You can now tab around until you find the “Apply” button or you can use F6 which might be faster or you can just go to the File menu with Alt+F, then use “v” to go to the “Device” submenu and then select “Sync”. In earlier versions of iTunes all available apps were displayed in a nice listview and you could simply arrow down through that list view and each app had a checkbox which you could activate with the spacebar. Apps installed on your phone would be checked, apps which were not but could be installed were not. This way you could go and install or remove as many apps as you wanted all at once. I'm trying to restore a specific app to my iPhone. The accessibility was damaged in the most recent version and I want to go backward. I've deleted the latest version and have an earlier version on the PC. I can't figure out how to proceed. I have checked Google and the archives but either don't see what I need or don't understand what I read. Help appreciated. -- The following information is important for all members of the VIPhone list.
