Hi Greg, Not sure about where you are in the States, but I started with iOS also in 2009 and here in Canada there always has been tax on apps and why not, they are no different from any other product or service.

I am a bit disappointed in the app store though. There are a lot more free apps on the Google Play store compared to the Apple App Store.
