Hello Brandon,

Wow! This sounds very exciting.

I, for one, will definitely check it out and encourage others to do the same.

Thank you ever so much.

Mark

Subject: Re: A Definite Step Backwards for AudioBook Listeners in iOS 8.4 iBooks

I ended up creating an app that solves the issue :D

Check out Undulib.com for more details. Undulib is available on the Appstore
now.

Hello Everyone,

This post comes under the heading of look before you leap:

I enjoy downloading old-time radio dramas such as the Mystery Theater and
Beyond Midnight as .mp3 files, then tagging them as Audio Books in iTunes
and then listening to them in the native iOS app.

So, for example, I have three episodes from the Beyond Midnight radio
series. The three titles are Let me See Your Face, Fortieth Birthday, and
The Room. These are .mp3 files that, after being imported into iTunes, I
change their media type to Audio Book. Now because I have them tagged as
Beyond Midnight, under the Album field, in the Title field, I can list the
actual episode names as listed above.

In iOS 8.3 and earlier, after syncing to my iOS device, I would then simply
select Audiobooks from within the native music app, and then I would see
Beyond Midnight listed as a single book. After single-finger double-tapping
on the title, I would then see each episode listed by name.

No longer.

To my complete dismay, I now discover that in iOS 8.4, the iBooks app does
not list the individual episodes by names or chapter titles but simply list
them as tracks.

This means that when I now select Beyond Midnight, under contents, all I see
are track 1, track 2, and track 3.

Try as I may, I cannot figure out how to get each episode listed by its
episode title or chapter heading.

At first, I thought this was an oversight until I did a search on Google and
discovered the following excerpt from Mac Rumors that described this issue
back near the beginning of the beta cycle:

[Begin Excerpt]
Currently, in iOS 8.3, a users' audiobook library is divorced from their
ebook library, forcing users to use two different apps to access their
entire digital book library. The new update consolidates all books in
Apple's iBooks app and also fixes another longstanding issue with audiobooks
on iOS. Since iOS 7, audiobook listeners have been unable to view chapter
titles or even select them. However, pazimi points out that while chapters
are now selectable in iOS 8.4, they do not list the actual chapter titles,
as they're listed as "track numbers".
[End Excerpt]

The URL for the entire article can be found at:
http://www.macrumors.com/2015/04/14/audiobooks-ios-8-4-beta/

This issue occurs in both iTunes 11.x and the very latest version of iTunes
12.

Fortunately for me, I have not yet updated my beloved 6 Plus to iOS 8.4.
Although I doubt it will make any difference to Apple, I will send a bug
report via the bug reporting portal.

If any of you have discovered a tagging method that will allow for the
individual chapter titles to be respected in audiobooks, in the iBooks app,
please post.

If I had updated to the latest iOS without doing some testing, over 70
episodes of my radio dramas would have been reduced to mere track numbers on
my phone.

In The Journey,

Mark
