You only get to keep them around for so much time, but if you are the kind
of person who would read a book once and then never again, it's probably for
you. If nobody is waiting for the book after the expiration, you probably
can check it out again, or maybe there is a renew function.

I do not know if OverDrive titles are a subset of Audible or not but I don't
think so.
Regardless, however, unlike the Audible titles, the OverDrive offerings are

I am curious, regarding the audio overdrive books. I was under the
impression that they were simply a subset of audible books. Is that right or
no? I used the textbased part of the overdrive app years ago, and found it
somewhat difficult and quite crash prone. But I have not used it in a few

In California, public library cards are based on the county in which you
get your membership.
Therefore, if one lives in Los Angeles County, it does not really matter
whether you belong to the Long Beach Library or the Beverly Hills library
or the Santa Monica library or the Northridge library as they are all tied
into the same system being that all of these cities are located in Los
Angeles County.
Having said that, I belong to the Orange County public library system and
when I compare the titles of my book selection to that of my friends who
live in Los Angeles County, I see no difference in the number or variety
of titles being offered.
Please keep in mind that I am only using OverDrive for audio books.
My opinion is that for the best experience, one should have at least one
public library membership along with a free OverDrive account.

This weekend, to my dismay, the BARD servers, along with their
associated governmental affiliates, were down.
As an alternative, given that I have a library card with my local
public library, I fired up the OverDrive app on my iPhone.
I was delighted to discover that, for the most part, the app is
VoiceOver accessible. That is to say, with a little practice, one
can easily discover and subsequently borrow/download audio books in
just a few minutes.
Now keep in mind that I have only used OverDrive in order to
download/borrow audio books, not eBook titles.
I have discovered a great many commercially available audio books,
via OverDrive, that are not currently available via BARD.
I would like to see more automatic VoiceOver feedback added to the
app but given that it is an off-the-shelf mainstream app, I give it a
two-thumbs up.
One aspect of the app that could definitely use some VoiceOver
improvement is the method by which one may immediately return a
borrowed book to the library, before the expiration date.
As a general rule, I would recommend this app to intermediate and
advanced VoiceOver users.
Before installing the app, make sure you are a member of your local
public library for you will need a library ID number and a 4-digit pin.
After installing the app, I suggest that, in addition to using your
library credentials, sign up for a free OverDrive account. Doing
this will allow you to access books and all associated OverDrive
features via any desktop web browser which some may find more
convenient.
When you get a chance, take it out for a spin.
