Hello list,
it is slightly off-topic, but as we are talking about cables, is it
possible to find a realiable seller who sells apple certified cables on
Ebay?
Ebay has become quite popular in Slovakia, because many selers, mostly
those in Asia, offer free shipping. We all know that these products are
not certified and they might damage devices.
I've purchased some items on Ebay in the past, but I avoid buying things
such as charging cables, batteries and adapters.
I am just wondering is there a chance to find an authorised seller who
sells certified apple cables and other accessories on Ebay?
If so, how can I find them and make sure they are authorised sellers?
Does anyone purchase cables on Ebay? Or have you purchased cables on
Ebay in the past?
I would like to hear your opinions and thoughts.
Thank you for your help in advance.
With kind regards
Maria

Hi Alan,
I have I think two Amazon Basics 6 foot cables and two Monoprice 10
foot cables. I have an iPhone 5S and my wife has a 6. Apart from the
fact that one Monoprice cable doesn’t work any more after two years of
regular use, all of them seem to plug in securely into both phones. My
wife now has an Otterbox defender case on her iPhone 6 and it’s design
unfortunately only allows the Apple cable to plug in with the case on
since the Apple cable has a super slim connector and both the
Monoprice and Amazon Basics cables are two thick to go through the
small opening in the case. The defender case on my 5S is designed
differently and I can use them. Anyhow, to make a long story short, I
put a USB mal to female extension cable both behind her side of the
bed and in the living room by the sofa and plugged a 3 foot Apple
original cable into each. Both work fine to charge, but the difference
is that we don’t use a PC to charge but in the case of the bedroom an
Anker dual USB wall adapter so we can both charge at the same time and
in the living room just the Apple wall adapter. I only plug into the
laptop when I want to sync since using a wall adapter charges a lot
faster and in any case, my laptop usually sits in my office.
I definitely don’t feel it is necessary to use a cable made by Apple,
as long as it’s got the Made for iPhone or whatever it’s called
certification it will work just fine. One of these days I’ll try to
plug one of the phones into the laptop with the USB extension cable
and Apple cable to see what it says.

Sieghard

*Subject:* Survey of Member Success with non-Apple Lightning Cables
I'm curious about the success of others on this list with lightning
cables other than those coming from Apple. I only use Apple MFi
certified lightning cables so those are the ones I'm curious about
others' experience with.
Here's my story with lightning cables and my iPhone 6. When I
purchased my iPhone 6 last February, it would give me an error message
about an unsupported product whenever I plugged its 3-foot Apple cable
into my USB extension cable connected to my computer in order to
charge it. I never got such an error message when charging my iPhone 5
in the same manner. I decided to purchase a 10-foot lightning cable to
use with my iPhone 6 since I needed the length as my mid-tower
computer sits on the floor. Apple does not sell a lightning cable of
this length and even their 6-foot cable is expensive so I decided to
get an Apple MFi certified one from Amazon. I found one for about $13
and have never gotten an error message while charging with it.
However, starting a couple of weeks ago, I noticed that the lightning
connector on this cable does not stay plugged in solidly to my iPhone
6 any longer. It's almost as if it's become malleable and can't
maintain a good connection even though I plug it in securely. I put a
lot of faith in Anker external batteries and cables so I purchased a
9-foot Anker lightning cable from Amazon but I'm also getting this
connection problem with that one as well.
I'm curious if anyone else is experiencing this sort of issue with any
of their lightning cables and whether it's specific to particular
iDevices or cables. I really don't want to hear from those who are
going to say 'only use Apple cables" because they don't offer a length
I need at a price I believe is reasonable.
Thanks for any experience you can share with your non-Apple cables.
