Hi, You can use battery and have the screen unlocked if you're backing up manually. But an automatic backup will only start if it's been at least 24 hours since the last backup, the screen is locked, you have a Wi-Fi connection, and your phone is plugged in. Once any backup starts, whether automatic or manual, you can use your phone normally.
