Yes, it's basically a matter of practice and knowing which letters correspond
to which number, e.g. 1 is nothing, 2 is A, B and C, 3 is D, E and F and so on.
I find it quite natural now and I hardly have to think which numbers to push
if, for example, I want to enter the first 3 letters of a last name like
"Smith", I know I have to push 7 6 4. Here is the complete list of letters:

1 = nothing
2 = A, B and C
3 = D, E and F
4 = G, H and I
5 = J, K and L
6 = M, N and O
7 = P, Q, R and S (apart from the 9 that is the only number with 4 letters)
8 = T, U and V
9 = W, X, Y and Z

I don't usually have hints enabled, so when I touch a number on the keypad
Voiceover only speaks the number and not the letters which the number also
represents which I just find distracting.

Regards,
Sieghard

Subject: Re: Question about searching a telephone directory for peoples names

I have just memorized the letters on each key. I hate that option
because it often times out on me. Lots of luck and if you are
successful please give me a tip.
