Well, I haven't tested this exhaustively, and I'm no expert, but I don't think you'll get the option to send an iMsg from your iPhone to someone who doesn't have an Iphone. I think you'll just get dropped into a text message entry field. So you can send them a message but you won't be able to send them an iMsg.
