The place you're at should be in the list of locations. Sometimes your phone or Four Square can't tell exactly where you are. If you don't see it in the list, try using the search field.
I don't know how to change the name of a place, but if you type something in the search field that it doesn't find in it's database, you'll be prompted to add it.
