Hi Allen,

Have you had this iPhone connected to the laptop before and did iTunes
recognize it? It sounds to me that if it does not show up under Devices that
for some reason it is not recognized at all. Here are a few things you can
try:

1. Turn off your iPhone completely by holding the power button at the
top until you get the message "Slide to power off", then double tap anywhere
on the screen. Wait 10 or 20 seconds, then give the power button a good half
second press and let it boot up again. While you do this, also reboot your
computer and reload iTunes, also make sure you have upgraded to the latest
version which is 10.6.3.25.

2. Try a different USB port on your computer, if your laptop is very
new and has a USB 3.0 port, make sure to use a USB 2.0 port.

3. If none of the above has any affect, try a different cable if you
have one.

If you search google for "iPhone not recognized by iTunes" you find a lot of
articles from Apple support pages as well as other forums which might help
you to trouble shoot further. Also make sure you authorized that particular
laptop with iTunes in the "Store" menu. I think the "Authorize this
computer" option is available even if it is authorized, but it won't hurt to
do it again since it will tell you if it is authorized already.

One last thing you can do in order to see if the cable works is of course
first to see if the phone charges when it's plugged into a USB port. You can
also take a picture with the camera of the phone, then plug it in, if it is
recognized by your laptop and Windows you should of course hear the USB
connect tone and also you should either get a pop up window asking you what
you want to do with the picture or, if not, you can go to "Computer" and the
iPhone should show up under Removeable Devices and you should be able to
open the camera folder and see the file of the picture you took, you can
always check the date to see if it is the one.

Good luck,

Sieghard
