I can't speak for anyone else, but I think I'm following you. I
also had the problem mentioned in this thread. After your
message below I did the following. I already had my default
language set to U.S. English. I added U..S. english to the
rotor. Now I have two items in the rotor for language -- Default
language U.S. English and U.S. English. If I leave it on
default then VO decides what language it needs to speak.
However, if I switch from Default language U.S. English to U.S.
English then only U.S. English is used. At least this is the
way it is working so far. Sorta crazy, but there you go (Smile).

my default dialect happens to be set to UK English. The next
thing I see is other languages and here I have UK English and
Italian. with this set up all three show in my language rotor.
so, only when I select default language/dialect, I can't remember
what it's called now, the screen will read whatever languages are
available. but but if I select either UK or Italian the screen
will read in that language or at least try to in a weird sort of
way. are we getting closer here?

There is an add language button at the bottom of that screen.
Just double tap that and select the other languages you want.
I think you have to select them one at a time.

From what Sandy said, you want to add the other languages to the
Rotor Languages.
But since I only speak English, I'm not sure exactly what
triggers VoiceOver to read in other languages.
Try adding a language under the Rotor Languages and see if that
does the trick.

In the VoiceOver settings, did you only set up Rotor voices and
not set up a voice under Default Dialect?
Normally, if you have a default voice, in the language rotor it
will say "default language" before that voice.

to languages. I have UK, and US. Which is correct. I'm also
using the female British voice, but just tried a different, no
difference. At either rate, I have no such thing as default, and
when I read something that's in English, according to the note
takers, voice over will disagree. I'm not sure what's going on
here.

I have the English UK voice and the default language set to
English UK on my iPhone 6. if I turn my rotor I get under the
language options English UK Italian (which I also have) and
default language. if I leave it set to default language, then my
iPhone will read in whichever language the text was written. but
if I leave the rotor set to English UK, everything is read in
English regardless of its actual language. does this make sense?
