Well, I don’t think Writer works that way. I’ve tried a few times to use the rotor set to headings and it doesn’t seem to work.
But, if you double tap on show outline, and use the cursor buttons within Writer, you can more easily navigate the document. You could export as html and put the file somewhere that you would be able to double tap on it so it opens in Safari where the rotor headings would work. Anna had said I could place a number sign at the beginning of the first line of each of these messages and Writer would treat each of those lines as a level 1 heading. Two number signs would mark the line as a level 2 heading and so forth. I just want to ensure that I mark the number sign correctly and save the file so that when I open it with Writer or Dropbox or whatever, that the rotor headings function does what I want. Thanks for your help. Writer only opens txt files. But, you can export to several different formats. Now, most of the time I have done the markup in Writer, so entering the number signs before the headings, etc. I find using a bluetooth keyboard because that is easier. Maybe it would be helpful if you explained more about what you are trying to accomplish. I may have missed a piece. I think I already knew that Writer is only able to open plain text files but can you confirm this? Also, I assume I have to place those pound signs which mark a line as a heading using Writer itself. Doing that with Microsoft Word before saving the document as txt and opening it in Writer did not have the same effect. Do I simply key in the pound signs in Writer using the on screen keyboard number sign or is there a special tool to do this? Finally, does Writer only import and export txt files or can it do anything with any other file formats? Thanks so much for your help. Then you would save the document as text and put a single number sign/hash symbol, whatever you want to call it, before any line that you wanted to be level 1, two at the beginning of any line you want to be level 2, etc. Voice dream Writer has commands to move to the next and prior headings. Each email is pretty much just free-form text consisting primarily of the body of the message. What I want to do is mark the opening line of each of these messages so that when I save the file and open it on my iPhone 6 using the most appropriate app, I'll be able to put the rotor on headings and swipe to the first line of each message. Can anyone suggest the best way to go about doing this? I tried putting the Word document in Outline mode, marking each email first line as Level 1 with all the other lines in the document marked as body text. When I then saved this outlined document as a filtered html file, Dropbox told me there were no headings present when I tried using the rotor to swipe to them. So now I'm back at the drawing board and entertaining any suggestions to accomplish what I'm trying to do. How do other list members "mark up" Word documents to put headings in them which are accessible by the rotor? Thanks in advance for any help.
