Blind Square and Seeing Eye GPS do use data because they ping a server for
realtime location data. I believe that they only download the data that they
actually need as you move along. An app like Navigon stores its maps on the
device, so has much less need to pull data from an online server.

I usually use the Trekker Breeze as a GPS, but I'm interested in trying some
of the paid GPS apps like Blind Squared or the Seeing Eye GPS.
How do these apps manage data? For example, how much data would I use for a
45 minute walk around a semi residential/business neighborhood?
I have Verizon Wireless as my cell carrier in the U.S. I have a good plan
as far as minutes and texting is concerned, but only 500 mb of data each
billing cycle.
