I use Verizon. I have a plan that links my land line to use my cell phone minutes for $20 a month. Verizon sent me 3 Vtech cordless phones and a router type device. I did not have to pay extra for these devices. Essentially, my cordless phones act like cell phones sending the signal through the router type device. The base phone has a battery backup. But my experience has been that the cordless phones do not work if the power goes out. Rob
