The earphones problem has gone, since 9.1, and that is on my 4s and iPhone
6.
So, i would say upgrade your software.

EMail is what I use my phone for a lot, and also I use a lot the
earpods. Yes I know not everyone has seen these bugs, but better to be
on the safe side. Thanks again for the varied oppinions. Good thing I
haven't started the update process! I was making sure my ICloud backups
were up to date, restarting my IPhone ETC.
