Hi Mark,

As Richard pointed out, Audible is a better deal and depending on how much you
read, you can also buy 24 credits all at once for I think $229, about $9.50 a
book. The good thing about being an Audible member is also that you can sign up
for their daily deal book which is usually anywhere from $1.95 to $4.95 or at
most $5.95. Often they aren't books I'd buy, but usually once or twice a month
there is a good one that I like. Furthermore you get other promotions, e.g. you
may get a promotion with a large list of books where you can buy 3 books for 2
credits or as just last week, a list of 300 titles all of which only cost
$4.95. I think Audible is the way to go as well. I only bought a book from
iTunes once or twice and then when I listened to the book it actually said it
was from Audible.

As for the Audible app, it has had it's querks and sometimes Audible decides to
fix what isn't broken and in the process they break it. Currently it's quite
stabil again and a very nice app to use. As Richard said, setting bookmarks is
super easy, the Bookmark button is right there on the main playing screen and
double tapping it will set the bookmark. There is also a "Chapters" button
which displays all the chapters of the book. You can jump back or forward in
30, 60 or 90 second jumps although you have to decide which jump you want and
set it in Settings, it's not where you could jump by 30 seconds this time and
by 90 a minute later. Also, if you double tap on the book artwork or whatever
you want to call it, the jump forward and jump back buttons become chatper
forward and chapter back buttons. Furthermore, you can put focus on the elapsed
time scrubber and flick up/down or drag left or right to move your playback
position.

Regards,
Sieghard

Subject: Re: Four Questions about the Audible App from a Non-Audible Subscriber

Mark,
Since I only buy my audio books through Audible, I can't answer the iTunes
question exactly. You used to be able to access books loaded through iTunes,
but I think speed adjustment is not available on non-audible books.
But, yes you can navigate by chapter and can put in all the bookmarks you wish.
You may find that if you were to set up an audible account, the books cost less
than through iTunes, often for the same recording.
Also, if you know you will buy at least 12 books in a year, the gold membership
costs basically $150 which gets you 12 credits. most titles are 1 credit, so
about $12.50 per book. And, you can choose to download them as 1 large file.
I hope someone has an answer for you about the use of iTunes books within the
Audible app.
Richard
