Ok, an apology, and probably one of the reasons I never did get to do mp3 on my iDevices:- My suggestion didn't work, you can't save anywhere on the device from attachments. I suppose they had their reasons.

For instance, I just opened the message with the Excel file with it and when I double tapped it it opened in some kind of preview which I closed by two finger scrubbing. I double tapped and held on the attachment and I got the various options, from copy to MS Excel, iCloud, DropBox, OneDrive, BlindSquare, SA Contacts tooption for saving which opened another menu with the cloud services I use and I can select any of them to save my file.
