This does not mean, however, that Apple is just now introducing fragmentation in its phone line. The 5S and 5C were essentially the same phone, but for the fact that the 5C was the iPhone 5 with a plastic backing. I think this is a very similar situation. The goal is to make it cheaper and easier to afford for those in other countries, who have to buy the phone outright.
