Yes, the Unplayed tab is always selected by default, but it's just a quick tab on the My Podcasts tab to change that after Podcasts opens. If it weren't for SIRI control I would probably continue to use Downcast, but I only listen to about 5 or 6 Podcasts on a fairly regular bases and I just like how I can tell SIRI to jump ahead 68 seconds (just as an example) or back 35 seconds etc.

Once opening up podcast again there are the numbers followed by the podcast name and a number of how many other unplayed podcasts are from that particular one. For example, I just opened the Podcast app and it said this when I tapped on the "My Podcasts" tab: 1 Applevis Podcast, 1 unplayed episode As soon as it finished downloading the 1 in front went away and it just said "Applevis Podcast, 1 unplayed episode". I just turned off downloading for my Podcasts to see if next time there is a new episode of a Podcast that number in front will be there and stay there which I assume may be the case if you aren't downloading the Podcasts.
