Hi,
I have an apple ID, but my bank card is set to none. I can install free items on both devices, and it works. This is why I am confused.

iTunes 'Billing' is device-specific, i.e., iTunes must be set up fully on each device to run there. Do you not have an iTunes account on your iPad?
Well, your phone requires one. (make of that what you will.)

Hello,
It worked on the iPad, though, which also freed space, but not on the phone, as that wants billing. And yes, same apple ID, same IP address, same film, same time of date, same settings, same speech, same everything.

I believe you'd have to have set up a billing address in some form, for
this
particular way to work at all. Otherwise, iTunes (or whichever store) is
not
going to know to what place or method of payment to bill the would-be
rental
to. (Of course, if the item is too large for your device, then nothing is downloaded and charged. You've just made your device do a recovery of all
bits of unused space as if it were preparing to download it.)

Hello,
can someone try an iPhone without billing? As I said, iPad did it, but
phone
didn't..

Hi,

It deems to work ok! I did it myself on my iPhone, although as I was in
a

I

time
when the new 9.3 update was ready for me to install and quite a number

podcast episodes were remaining to be listened to.

Rajmund, my billing information is in iTunes on my phone. I now have
5.5GB
left (on a 16GB phone, and the 9.31 update had been applied.)

Hello,
I don't understand why it didn't work on the phone, though. That doesn't
allow me to do it without payment information.

I have no opinion about this tirck, but I do know that after a while,
it
is not uncommon for the amount of space reported on your device to
differ
from what the actual storage space it due to leftover bits and possibly
corrupted files and or just memory readings.
When you have the device plugged into your computer and open itunes and
look in the Info tab, see what it says about remaining storage.
If it shows a different number than what your device says, then you
have
some wasted space somewhere.
About a year ago, when I called Apple Accessibility about this, they
had
me do an encrypted backup, erase all my data, and restore from that
back
up, after which I had about 2 GB more space on my device.

So, if this trick actually works, that seems like an easier way to
unclutter your device if you are running out of room.

See how it is in a few hours' time, or even tomorrow. Will your unused
storage stay at 7.6 GB, or go back to 7.1 GB?

Hello,
So, some updates. With the phone, no matter what, I can't, for the life
of
me, rent without a card. Just, fails. With the iPad, however, I
started
with 7.1 GB, I now have 7.6. In other words, the trick does work, but, unless, you have payment information given, it'll only work on an iPad,
and
not on the phone. Don't have an iPod to try with, though, not sure how
those
would react to it.

How to increase storage on your iPhone with this unusual trick

An unusual trick which can dramatically increase the available
storage
space on your
iPhone
 has been discovered.

The trick is capable of freeing up gigabytes of space on your phone, which always come in handy if you're using a lower-capacity device.

To see the trick in action, go to Settings>General>About, and scroll
down to 'Available'.

Check how much storage you have left, and then head to the iTunes
Store.

Search for a film which is bigger than the space left on your phone. Something like The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (which clocks in
at 6.84GB) should
do the trick.
Then click 'Rent' at the top of the page. Don't worry -- if you don't have room, you won't be charged, and an error box saying you don't
have enough available
storage will appear.

After you've clicked 'Ok', head back to settings and check your
available storage again. It should have increased, potentially quite
significantly.

The trick was discussed on Reddit's iPhone forum, where some users with higher-capacity phones said they had gained up to 4GB of space
in
just a few tries.

Harshit
