I just wanted to say that I concur with Ed in that I am a huge fan of Seeing
Eye GPS.

While I am so grateful to the developer of Blind Square, for such a marvelously
comprehensive app, I find that, for day-to-day navigation on busses and in
taxis, etc, I use Seeing Eye more often.

Hello,

It uses the Google maps. It might have the Canada maps as it does not store
maps off line. It just gets it’s maps info from google or even the Open Street
Maps Project. It all depends on which one you have selected in the settings.

I hope that this helps.

well, perhaps I should try seeing eye gps. not sure if it even has maps for
Canada but easy enough to find out. does it store maps off line? would prefer
not as I have a rather large data bucket but it might be handy. With blind
square, the announcement stuff is pretty automatic. I mostly use it when going
somewhere new to keep me clued in on where I am. Typically, for route
planning, I use google maps to get turn by turn or work out transit things in
cities where I have never been.
I have navigon but last time I tried, I couldn't work out how to get maps
properly.

I may just try the free 30 day trial option again, and see how I like it. One
of the reasons I didn't like it, and this wasn't really the app's fault, was
that it ran super, super slowly on my iPhone 4S. Google Maps and Lyft used to
do this as well, but both of those apps are now running great on my iPhone 6S,
so hopefully the same will be true for Seeing Eye GPS.

Thanks,

Hey Guys,

I am on the opposite side of the coin. I find the Seeing Eye GPS app much more
intuitive for my use. I really love the improvements to the app with the newest
update. The tabs down at the bottom of the app screen are now all on one level,
and for low vision users they have added some new text and interface color
options. Just a note I am not low vision but my business partner loves the
improvements to the low vision aspect of the app now. I have found the look
around features of The Seeing Eye app to more than adequate. But once again
different strokes for different folks.

Just thought I would throw my two sense into the conversation.

Hi,
You can change the intersection distance from short, medium or long inside the
app setting. I periodicaly shake my phone to check my location to get updates.
Hope that helps.Regards,

I tried Seeing Eye GPS a while back, and while I really did like the
turn-by-turn directions, and especially the intersection analisous, I think
BlindSquare may be a better fit for me. I mostly need something that will tell
me my nearest intersection, like Sendero Lookaround used to do before it broke.
So, my question is, I know BlindSquare can do what I want, but does it do it
automatically, or can I do something to make it happen? I'd rather have the
feature be a manual control, like in Sendero Lookaround.

Thanks,
Ari

I tried Seeing eye because it was from the company that made my Sendero GPS on
my voice note. I did like it because it was so similar with the turn by turns.
Price wise, I switched to BSQ and have been enjoying it ever since. I use it
with Navagon and it has been a treat. I was told that I can virtually walk
through an area to see what is around there. As soon as I figure out how to do
it I'm going to practice practice practice. This was a feature I used
frequently on my Sendero GPS.

I too found BlindSquare better for look around features. If the turn by turn
directions of seeing eye gps can be had on blindsquare, it'd be great. I use
blindsquare simotaniously with google maps and i get theinformation i need.

Hello. I just made a comparison between sendero and blindsquare and
blindsquare came out head and shoulders ahead for my needs. I brought up
sendero and got a breadcrumb to my dumpster entered and then routed to it. I
invoked the route and began walking with the screen locked and got not a peep
out of the app during the entire route. I unlocked the screen and got a little
info but not much. I felt much more supported using blindsquare. I will
gladly trade the lack of intersection analysis in blindsquare for its much more
supportive stance with the user. If blindsquare could include intersection
analysis, I would consider it a truly great app.
