Yes, I use it all the time. It is very accessible. I have the 6+ Iphone. I just make sure I have selected the contact I want, and then I swipe over to the voice recording, I double tap and hold my finger down, speak what I want, as far as I know, there is no time limit. Once you lift the finger however, the message is automatically sent. No need to press a send key etc. There is also an option to just send a normal text in the same app. I have not messed around with groups and such.
