Hi, The older one, third gen, occasionally gets updates. However the updates are not as robust as the fourth Generation updates. They may include security updates, an occasional bug fix, or an additional channel once in a while! I highly doubt you will ever see anything major happen on the third gen such as the addition of Apple Music. I had decided I would not purchase the fourth generation Apple TV. However, once I did I was very happy with the sound quality and the additional features. The new touch screen remote took a little getting accustomed to but Siri is a nice addition. There are still one or two things I need to work out bot all in all I'm pretty happy with moving up to the fourth generation for the more robust feature set. Hope that helps. Merv

I had heard it wouldn't update, but last night I looked and saw it had, adding Free Form toi its lineup. In that case I wonder if I need to get the newer one, I had thought about it because I thought the older one wouldn't update. Not sure what to think now. Was this just an older update that I just now found out about thought I don't think so, or will the older one still get updates? Patti -- Avoid being judgmental and your personal peace will increase.
