4G LTE as such would cause no increase in the amount of data being used by a smartphone. However the higher access speeds offered by 4G LTE leads to subscribers staying online for a larger amount of time during a data session thereby increasing the data usage. Also, with better speeds and lower latency, subscribers install a lot of apps on their phones and most of these apps are chatty. These apps interact at regular intervals with their servers to look for updates and notifications, further increasing the amount of data being used.
