Hi Cheryl and others, I really don’t know what causes the lag and why it seems to be more noticeable in some devices as opposed to others, but I can say for sure that Bluetooth 4.0 has nothing to do with it. I have owned a lot of Bluetooth devices over the last 6 or 7 years and I have Bluetooth 2.1 devices (speakers and headsets) which have almost no lag and I think it’s probably as good as it gets and I have Bluetooth 4.0 devices which do. The most recent example is the Plantronics Backbeat Sense headset I just bought and which I think was only released last year. It is a Bluetooth 4.0 stereo headset and at $200 Canadian (maybe $150 in the US) they aren’t exactly cheap. They also have really high ratings when it comes to comfort, features and sound quality and all of that I can confirm is great. However, the lag is terrible. If I swipe quickly across the home screen icons Voiceover doesn’t keep up at all and typing is a pain in the neck. On the other hand I have an Outdoor Tech headset they call the “OT Slims” which I received for free from the sales rep as a sample probably 4 years ago and they are stereo and Bluetooth 2.1 and there is very little lag. My Jabra Supreme earpiece as well as the new Plantronics Voyager Edge I also just purchased are about the same, the Edge is Bluetooth 4.0 and I think the Jabra Supreme is Bluetooth 3.0. All I want to say with all this is that there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to how bad the lag is and that it can be bad in a Bluetooth 4.0 device and almost non-existant in an old 2.1 device.

I recently purchased a Sennheiser Presence, which I also like very much. You can either use it with ear sleeves that fit inside your outer ear and go just slightly into the ear canal, or you can use it with an ear hook and a round cap over the speaker instead of the ear sleeves. I personally don't like using the ear hook and the ear cap, as it makes the headset hang just outside my ear, but this type of fit might be ideal for someone with a hearing aid. Amazon has a great return policy, so one could always buy it to try and return it if it's not for them. The Sennheiser Presence does not have play/pause functionality built in. It also doesn't have voice command capability, and it doesn't do caller ID in and of itself. It's a passive device. (It does have spoken prompts for battery status, connection status, power on/off, and pairing status, however.) If these features are important to you, you'll want a different headset. But I love the size and sound of this little gem, and the Bluetooth 4.0 capability which keeps VoiceOver lag to a minimum (the Edge, Era 2014, and others are also Bluetooth 4.0 compliant). also, the headset lives every bit up to its claim of a 10-hour battery life and 1 hour 20 minute charge time, and the noise cancellation is superb.. Cheryl Rejoice always! Pray continually. Give thanks in everything, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 HCSB Sent from my iPhone On Apr 26, 2016, at 11:35 PM, Pinky <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> wrote: On these headset do they go on the outside of the ear or go into the ear? I listened to a passage and memorized what was being said. Then I jumped back a bit and replayed it stopping at a particular point by pressing that button. When I checked on the iPhone it said “Play” so it obviously had stopped and when I started playback again with that button it continued where I had paused it. From all the descriptions I expected it to be smaller, this headset is not really smaller than my Jabra Supreme which in fact is smaller when it is folded. The main difference is that the Supreme sits on the ear and requires a hook and the Edge goes a bit in the ear and seems to stay in place quite securely. It also feels quite comfortable. Anyhow, I had asked prior to purchasing whether it is possible to play/pause audio with this headset and I was told it is. I think Cristobal was one of the people who answered, but I could be wrong. Anyways, I’d really appreciate if I could be enlightened as to the secret on how to do this. I pushed every button I could find on this when I had an Audible book playing, but it does not seem to be possible to pause playback this way. All I can find on this headset is an on/off slider switch, volume up and down buttons (they all sit sort of on the edge, then there is a button on the back of the little boom arm which, when pressed says “Say a command” and there is the main area where if you press without anything going on the headset announces the remaining talk time, when the phone rings this becomes the answer/hang up button and if you press and hold for a moment it invokes SIRI. Answering a call by saying “Answering” when the phone is ringing also seems to work well, but this also was reliable with my Jabra Supreme and in fact everything else from the button on the boom arm to the volume buttons and so on is extremely similar to my old Jabra. . I primarily invested in this relatively expensive headset because I really like the ability to play or pause audio and I’d be quite disappointed if this wasn’t possible especially after having people tell me it was.
