I am able to do encrypted backups to my pc, using IOS 9.3.2, and iTunes 12.1.3, so I surely hope you can do them with 12.3. Hello Keith, While one can use iPhone without ever connecting it to a computer, generally speaking, I would argue that it is better to use iPhone in conjunction with a computer for a host of reasons not the least of which being that a computer allows one to preserve apps that may no longer be offered in the App Store. Again, it's a matter of opinion. One thing I can definitely tell you, however, is that for the best iTunes experience, one needs a Macintosh computer. On this point, there can be no argument if for no other reason than the fact that VoiceOver is built directly into the operating system.
