Hi Lois.
I have had both a roomba and a neato. The neato was a much more
powerful andeffective vacuum but was almost impossible to operate
reliably if you couldn't see the display.
I spoke with them about this and offered to beta test when they get
around to working on accessibility.
They took my info but never conteacted me.
Which one did you get and how do you use it?
Please feel free to write me privately.
[email protected]
Thanks in advance.

Hi Sandy,
I have the Neato, and I didn’t know there was one that would work with
an app.
I found that the Roomba gears got clogged with my cats fur. She is
very fluffy. The Neato doesn’t have that problem.
I’m off to investigate. Thanks for the tip.
Take care,
Lois

Hi Gordon and all who have been talking/asking about these useful toys,
Gordon, when you say that the battery powered hoovers are not as
powerful as the corded ones, you are, of course right, but there is a
caveat: because you have the pleasure of not having to actually do the
hoovering yourself, you tend to do it more often and, in this way, the
overall effect is superior!!! I have a house with tiled, wooden, and
carpeted floors. The Roombas that I have had since about 2003, have
all done sterling work! We have always had dogs, even so, my floors
have been the envy of my friends! Don't I sound sad?.... Seriously, I
have left the house with a friend, off to enjoy ourselves about town,
and she has said to me "What is that sound? Have you left something
on?" 'Tis my little friend, the robot vacuum cleaner, he is doing the
floors while I am out." I cannot describe the astonished jealousy!
For, not only the blind find hoovering a bit of a chore, most people
do too, especially living here, in rural Ireland, where every muddy
boot/paw bears testimony to the great outdoors!
I can only say that if your only arguement against these robots is
that of power and therefor efficiency, my house disproves it!
As for loudness, someone asked about: it is quieter on some
surfaces than others, but, in general, I would say it is much much
less noisy than our Milfisk (if that is how you spell it) We do have
ordinary vacs as well, but when the Roomba is working, they don't get
used, except for stairs and ceiling corners.
If you have children, who might be messy, leaving toys etc around
the floor, I would think twice about purchasing one of these as these
objects will slow up the efficiency of the robot, but this applies to
using a normal vac anyway, especially, when one doesn't see them and
sucks them up.
For anyone interested, and, keeping this on topic, there are, as
far as I know, 2 main competitors for the "best" slot, both of which
can work with apps. The Roomba 980 (very expensive) and the Neatorobot
VacBot connected (a couple of hundred cheaper) I am going to
investigate both while trying to resuscitate my old one!
Sandy.

Hi!
Frankly, I don't think robotic vacuum cleaners are better than the
usual ones. First thing you need consider when purchasing the vacuum
cleaner is it's strength in wats. Stronger it is the cleaning process
is better because it better sucks the dirt.
Robotic cleaners work on battery and you can't get the same strength
with it as the machines plugged into wall outlet.
So, true, it will probably clean the floor better than a blind person
hitting all the spots and corners but it won't do it like a nice old
fashioned cleaner. And this is not my philosophy, this I've been told
by Vorewerk representative while we talked about their new robotic model.

What makes these special compared to the cheaper ones before? I
could see the utility in having a robotic vacuum because there's
always those little spots one might miss around something, and I'd
imagine it can do a better job than many of us.

Ok, my unit arrived a couple of hours ago. Setting it up was quite
easy. There are a couple of really good unboxing videos on You Tube
that might help. The app has a few places where things aren't
labelled the best, but you should be able to figure it out. The
basic things are all accessible...
Fired Mr. Roboto up...you can name the unit .. And he took off. Did
a pretty decent job ...
My suggestion is to make sure you buy it from a place that will
allow you to return. With spending almost $1K, you want to make
sure it does all that you expect.

Hallo There!
OK, so I am in the market for a new robot vacuum cleaner. The
latest, from iRobot's Roomba range, is the 980 and it comes with an
app! I want to know how accessible it is. I downloaded the app, and
it looks OK, but, because I haven't, as yet, got the machine,
needing to know if it will work for me with the app, I can't tell
if it is usable with VO.
So, my question is: does anyone have experience of the app and
running the 980 Roomba. Now, before you all shout at me for
profligacy, I know it costs an arm and a leg! I can only say that I
have been seduced by the hype! I have long term experience of the
Roombas and love them! This new one, not only has an app which
should help with error analysis, but will allow me to start the
thing off from anywhere and, it says, it will do the whole of one
level of my house, going back to the charger for a refuel session
and then continue where it left off.
Anyway, I am almost convinced, but, with such a large outlay,
just need to know about the accessibility.
Can you help?
Sandy
