I'd love to know the long and lat of the magnetic pole, it would explain this
even better. Love it as a topic of discussion though.

I have an interesting web toy relating to this, here - http://hoh.me.uk/geo

As Rob explained, there is a difference between "true" or "geographical" north
and "magnetic" north. The world is on a slight
elliptical path hence the magnetic north pole moves around a bit although I
believe it is not moving like 10 Km from one months to
another. In any case, you would have to Google what the so-called "declination"
is for where you live to find out how much the true
and magnetic north differ. The further north you live the more is the
difference. Here where I live in northern British Columbia,
Canada, the difference is about 22 degrees.

Best regards,
Sieghard

The only differences I know of are megnetic and "True" north, with maybe 3deg
or so difference. 3Deg or so on or off target might
be important. "Geographic" north might be a new name for "True" north, the
pole around which our planet rotates.

so the magnetic pole is off, but no idea on what longtitude. So the difference
on the compass would vary depending where you are in
the world. E.g: if you were on that longtitude, or itsopposite, then magnetic
would indeed be true!

Hi,

The Compass geo graphical north button in IOS 9. Settings, compass. What is the
benefit of turning it on or off?

What is it, compared to normal compass north?

Take care
