For whatever it's worth, since the latest iOS update that pause on my 6S Plus is almost not noticeable, it is still a second or two, but nothing compared to what it was and it doesn't seem to matter if I reply to an original email or to a thread which already has 5 or 6 emails in it.

For instance, I guarantee that when I hit send on this message, there will be a pause during which I will be able to do nothing. Then things will come back. The longer the thread, the longer the pause. Every time, all the time, since iOS 9 first came on the scene.
