Hi Ed,
It works, except you can’t get it to play the number 1 song for that year, and 
it does not play charts by genre. Try saying “Play the number 1 song from June 
1972”
That will play “Oh Girl” by The Chi-Lites.
I’m sure this is not what you wanted.
You can have Siri create a classic country station, or possibly even a station 
featuring a particular artist like Pandora offers.
