Dear Jeremy, It would be true if the iPhone had an OLED screen. currently, all iPhones have LCD screens. With LCD screens, all three primary colors of a pixel are illuminated. With OLED displays, some colors of a pixel can be turned off completely, reducing battery drain. Even if you had an OLED screen, there are many actions you could adjust that would reduce battery drain beyond enabling gray scale to really make a difference.
