Hi Wayne,

Blindsquare is definitely a popular and good app. However, if somebody just
wants street announcements from time to time, you can now easily do this with
Apple Maps. All I do is open maps, at the very top right is a "Settings" button
and right underneath it is the button called "Tracking". By default that is set
to off, if you double tap it once it changes to "On" and if you double tap it a
second time right afterwards it changes to "On with Headings". At that point if
you start walking (or driving for that matter) Voiceover will announce upcoming
cross streets and it will say, for example, "Main Street, north and south"
which means the cross street is Main Street and it runs North and South. It
occasionally will also tell you the street you are on, so it may say "On 3rd
Avenue" and then it will again tell you the upcoming cross street.
If I simply want to know where I am (maybe I feel I'm not where I think I am
because maybe I made a wrong turn) I just ask SIRI "What is my current
location" and it will give me street name and address or address range. Maps
doesn't even have to be open for that, it's like asking SIRI what the time is.

Regards,
Sieghard

Chip,
You can in fact have BlindSquare announce the streets as you come upon them,
either by walking or riding in a vehicle. When you open the app your focus is
placed on the Search button. If you then swipe/flick right to the Filter
Announcements button and activate this, you can use a picker and set what you
want announced. I generally leave it on streets and my places, which are like
favorites, this way I get both automatically. There are other choices though,
like streets only, my places only, etc. BlindSquare will detect whether you are
walking or riding in a car, train or bus, and adjust accordingly. I'm sorry you
did not have a good experience with the BlindSquare support team.
Perhaps you can get your money back. If anyone else is thinking of the
purchase, go for it! Before I bought BlindSquare, whenever I would ask for good
GPS apps for the blind or in general, it seems like BlindSquare was always one
of the first ones mentioned. That says something about the app's quality and
reliability to me.
