I just tried it and it seems to work fine although when Voiceover is on it sometimes says something like "search" which can interfere with Google's spoken answer. For Brian, did you make sure you logged in with your Google account and went to Settings > Voice Search and turned on spoken answers and to use "OK Google" to start the search?

I do my first search by placing focus in the box where you normally type your search terms, swiping right once and moving to the voice search control, and then double tapping. Google will sound a sort of chime indicating it's waiting for your voice command and it works fine. It is an extra step instead of saying okay Google but it is much easier than turning VoiceOver off.
