I think this is default for all iPads. But held length ways, or landscrape, it is quite useful. Selectables are in a column down the left side to slide down with thumb, and the main body of screen, more or less square, is the right bit with the message or options or details in. Better to try use it than fight it. Especially if it's not gonna go away.
