Hi Paul and Jack, I know that when the iPhone 4S was released that in the States it took a few weeks before you could buy it unlocked at full price from Apple. Here in Canada and I think this is true for Australia and some European countries it is possible to preorder the iPhone right away as an unlocked phone without contract as soon as preordering is available.
Since the upgrade pricing is the same as the 4S I assume the regular pricing will also be the same. This would be $650 for an iPhone 5 16 Gb, $750 for a 32 Gb and $850 for a 64 Gb.
