Use the scrub gesture to close the folder, not the home button.
Then, your editing session doesn't end.

OK, a friend of mine just asked me a question, which I couldn't answer. This is 
a great way to move apps. However, the question is, how do you get an app out 
of the folder and moved it somewhere else using this method? The problem is 
that once you have selected the app and want to arrange it and hit move, you 
then have to close the folder, and doing that ends  your editing session. So 
you can't move the app
