If you have volume buttons set to
not change the volume, you'll need to adjust each volume individually.
If volume buttons do change the volume you're adjusting the media volume
if voice over is speaking or if something is playing through the phone.
If nothing is coming through the speaker, then you're adjusting the
ringer volume if you use the buttons on the side. The rotor will get you
to the voice over volume where you can flick up and down to adjust that.
My voice over volume is set at 35 which is a comfortable level for where
my media volume is set.

If volume controls the ringer, what is change with buttons? Where do I find
media settings to turn up alerts? Guess I missed this all the way back to 4s.
