Hi Donna, if the iPHone is up to date, the computer won't try to update it. If you have a recent iTunes or iCloud backup, go to SEttings/General/Reset and choose the option to erase all data from your phone. Then start going through the iPHone setup. You'll be asked wehther you want to restore from iTunes or iCloud; make your choice, and your backup will be restored to your phone.
