Hi Keith,

It is possible, but you have to sync all ringtones, currently if you choose to
sync only selected tones the process of selecting tones is not accessible. This
of course is stupid since it used to be perfectly accessible, but that is Apple
for you, when it comes to accessibility they think they are like God which
means “they giveth and they taketh away.”

Anyhow, here is what you need to check/do:

1. You should have a “Tones” folder in your iTunes Media folder and your
ringtone or ringtones which of course must be in M4R format must be in this
folder.

2. You must open iTunes and make sure the ringtones are also added to
your iTunes library, easiest way is to go to File > Add Folder to Library,
browse to the Tones folder and select it.

3. You can now go to the Tones section in your library (shortcut is
Control+8 or go to View > Media Kind and arrow down to Tones) and check to make
sure the tone or tones are there and if you like you can press enter on them to
make sure they play. I just tried this and pressing Control+8 did put me
directly into my list of tones and this part seems to work very well, I was
able to arrow down and Jaws read all my tones and pressing enter on one played
it.

4. Now in order to sync the tones connect your iPhone and go to the
device section, i.e. find the “iPhone” button and activate it.

5. Tab (6 times on my laptop) until you get to the “Device Sidebar
treeview” which starts with “Summary”.

6. Arrow down to “Tones”, the list should go like this: Apps, Music,
Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, Books, Audio Books and then Tones.

7. Tab once and you get to Sync Tones, make sure this is checked, then
tab until you get to Sync All Ringtones and check it. I just tried again and
while you can easily find the Sync selected Ringtones checkbox, the list where
they are all displayed and where a sighted person can easily check them off
does not read at all.

8. Now either tab to Sync or Apply or you can go to File > Devices and
select to Sync.

Now, I thought I would see if there is anything I can do via touch. I just
bought this fancy Asus Zenbook laptop which has a 15.6 inch 4K touch screen. I
first simply activating the Jaws touch cursor, but it didn’t get me into my
list of ringtones. I then explored the screen and found ringtones and Jaws read
me the name and said “not checked”. Unfortunately this is as far as I got, I
tried to tap or double tap, but nothing happened. It may of course be that I am
just not experienced enough yet with using touch on a Windows PC with Jaws, but
my wife watched and tried herself without success. I then turned off Jaws and
she touched/tapped the screen once and the tone was checked. If only this was
as easy with Jaws then those of us who had a tablet or touch enabled laptop
could do a lot more. I think we should all bombard Apple with monthly emails
asking them why on earth iTunes and iCloud.com have such terrible accessibility
and could they please get on with it and fix this.

Good luck,
Sieghard

Subject: Getting tones from iTunes on PC to iPhone

Hi,

Is this possible?

I purchased a ringtone in the past, but it did not get onto my phone when I set
up my iPhone 7 from an encrypted backup from my iPhone 6.

Apparently, the only way I can get this is via iTunes on my PC, at least that’s
what the Apple help folks are telling me.

I’ve looked around within iTunes on my Windows 7 machine running JAWS 17
latest version, but can’t find a way to do this. No Tones options appear
anywhere.

I’d appreciate learning if this is possible and how to do.

Thanks in advance, Keith
