Wayne Exactly that's the word i was looking for! The High-Quality voices sounded like if they were talking through teeth! Muffled that's the word! but strangely the Compact voice sounds very clear! Yes surely it's because of the degree and type of yearig loss, type of hearing aids etc. Nevertheless I think this will bring on very interesting experiences!

Hello. I use Alex as my primary voice, along with the Tom high quality
voice on my iPhone 7. Though I mostly use Alex, I was impressed by how
clear and a touch louder the Tom voice was on the phone. I haven't had
any trouble understanding Tom, but there are probably differences in
what you can hear and what I can hear. I should say too that I can
understand Tom with or without my hearing aids in. I typically find
the Compact voices to be more muffled, but as I say your milage may
vary.

For Jonathan and other hearing-impaired folks on here, who might be
able to shed some light on what I'm about to write: This morning I took
the plunge and tried the Tom and Juan High-Quality voice and upon voice
samples,, (thy're way too short to really get a grasp of the voice)
didn't like the kind of robotic-sounding Compact voice, so I put the
High-Quality ones. They worked great, but after several hours of using
them, I found I wasn't able to understand some words, thinking that
maybe my ears were having problems, or maybe the hearing aid battery
getting low, but no. So frustrated was I getting that I was about to
throw the towel and return to the legacy Samantha and Paulina voices. I
thought I'll give the Compact voices a try, overall after a friend on
Whatsapp, told me of a comment he'd heard that several hearing-impaired
folks were also having frustrations with the iOS10's High-Quality
voices; so I decided why not give them a chance before throwing the
towl? And wow what a change! I'm able to clearly understand what the
iPhone is saying! So now I have to stay, on my 5S, Tom English US, and
Juan Mexican Spanish Compact voices. So I just wonder am I the only one
who had these frustrations with the High-Quality iOS10 voices? With the
earpods they worked great, but when having the phone normally at a
distance without earpods, is when the fristrations started, but as I
said before, with the Compact voices, a different world entirely!
Looking forward to experiences.
