To get anything close to the power of KNFB Reader for quick text recognition, the ability to scan many pages with batch mode and save it into one file, with very few taps and good accuracy; you would have to spend around $1000 for an OCR program on a Windows computer, and a couple hundred on a Mac, plus the cost of a scanner.
If you do not want or need all that in one app, then Prizmo, TextGrabber or even now iDentifi can do a very good job for a lot less money. In my opinion, the biggest draw back with KNFB Reader as compared to computer scanning programs is that it does not retain formatting for paragraphs.
