Hello Helga. You can certainly do this. Once your finger has felt text of your book, turn the rotor to lines and then flick down to read each line or up to go back a line. The same goes for word and character. For this sort of navigation, you need to be comfortable using the rotor. If you don't find a "lines" setting in your rotor, your cursor might not be on the book's text.
Just in case you're unfamiliar with the rotor, I'll explain that here. Imagine there is a knob on the screen of your device. Using two fingers, place them on the screen as if grasping a knob and turn the imaginary knob left or right. When you reach a setting of interest, flick up or down with one finger to change or use the setting. In the case of lines, characters and words, flicking up or down moves that amount in the text.
