Hi There is a web option for whatsapp, although I don't know how accessible this is using the computer. I think there is also some code that has to be scanned in for the web service. Other than that you have to use a valid cell phone number for whatsapp to work. A group has a group admin person which has to add you to a specific group, and for that he will have to have your phone number.
