This is just my opinion, but I've used both Apple and Android, and I find Android to be the better platform. I appreciate it's openness and customizability. I like the widget support it's had for years. I like the variety in form factors. Android does have trouble with fragmentation though, but I'm willing to put up with this for the benefits I perceive.

Apple is a great product and a great ecosystem. I used it for years before I thought Android accessibility had caught up enough to make the jump possible. I still use an iPhone for work.

I think either platform is great depending on what you're looking for and how you use your phone. I think choice is good, and I don't think people need to get defensive when talking about the brand they chose to use or put down the other options. I for one hope both platforms get better and more accessible.

Android and it was not impressive at all. And this was on a Google

Victor, every few months their articles coming out telling how much of
the phone market which company has in terms of profits. Year after
year, Apple makes the vast majority of profits in the phone market.
You might not like it. But it's true. There's a whole lot of the
technical press that is all over articles every time some company
gains a little bit of marketshare. Waymore phones have android on them
then there are iPhones. And that makes exactly no difference, because
the vast majority of the actual money being made is being made by
Apple on phones, not any of the other companies. Samsung makes a bunch
of money. They make some profit on phones. They also make a ton of
money in other industries. All those cheap phones that all those folks
are making our nonprofit producers. Again, you might not like it. It
might not be "fair". But that's how it is.

Mary, you can’t make blanket statements without looking it up first.

One cannot say that Apple is making most of the money in this
industry because Apple is only one company, whereas there are at
least seven or eight companies manufacturing cell phones that are not
Apple. To say that Apple was making most of the money in this
industry is like saying that Coke is making most of the money in the
pop industry when there are so many other drinks available like
juices, soft drinks, milk, coffee, or tea.

Now if you were to say that Apple was making most of the money
compared to Samsung or even Sony would be more appropriate, but even
then your statement would be wrong as these two companies alone make
thousands of products Apple does not, so please, check your facts
before your tout them as facts.

Well, apparently not too many people are moving away. Apple is making
most of the money in this industry. There are many people who make
android devices. Most of them make no profit. Companies don't stay in
business forever if they don't make a profit.

Hi Sieghard, while I can appreciate your issue regarding OS
reliability and phone integrity, the fact is people are moving away

the camera, both front and rear, pictures will get larger, and I
don’t even think there are phones available higher than the five
that have 16 gig memory, and even those devices are pushing it.
When they introduced the enhanced camera in the iPhone six, they
realized that sixteen gigs just wouldn’t do if people wanted to take
pictures, I mean, I’m still amazed that they’re still offering the
32 gig devices, especially in the iPad, but again, this is just the
smaller issue. How many phones out there are getting more and more
waterproof and dust proof, and they don’t seem to have a problem
with an SD card slot, in addition, the OS security could be plugged
to avoid that sort of thing. Fact is, I think that Apple is
guarding it’s closed platform so people are forced to get their
content from iTunes and App store. Open up the file system and
you’re looking at an easier way to jailbreak, and Apple couldn’t
have that Regardless, I do think that Apple should open their eyes
when it comes to expansion, if only to make it easier to connect to
a portable solution, lest they get left out in the cold when the
Android devices that allow for expansion come rumbling in. Just a
thought.

Hi Victor,

I am not sure if Apple could keep their walled garden concept and
offer SD card expansion slots. If you allow people to introduce
media on an SD card then the OS must have access to the folders or
maybe it would be more accurate to say that Apple would have to give
users access to what is on the SD card and that would possibly
defeat the purpose of the closed nature of the platform. Any SD
card, even the newest and fastest, would also introduce a lot of
latency in how fast things get loaded and I think this all goes
against what Apple wants to achieve. I think actually that even some
high-end Android phones are moving away from that, but I might be
wrong, just something I heard. Does the Google Pixel for example
have an SD card slot? Lastly, having such an expansion slot on an
iPad is one thing because there is probably plenty of space, but
having it on an iPhone is most likely not very practical as there
hardly is any space left as is and of course making a highly
waterproof or water resistant device would probably be much more
difficult if the device had an SD card slot Personally I have no
problem with Apple offering internal memory, I totally agree that
nowadays 16 Gb doesn’t get you far, but I wonder how many people
still buy 16 Gb devices if they can get a 64 Gb device (4 times the
space) for $100 more.

Sieghard

I don’t agree. Granted, the 300 dollar price tag is nice, but not
with the memory it’s offering.

I think the 32 and 16 models of any device is outdated, unless it’s
got an expansion slot for an SD card.

Frankly, I’m completely surprised that Apple hasn’t embraced this
concept, since it would enable them to lower the amount of ROM
memory on the device, and allow people to expand according to their
budget. Alas, it would seem that Apple is destined not to ever get
the message.

These are not big deal upgrades. If they actually introduce a
substantial a new iPad Pro, I would suppose they would do so with a
bit more fanfare. But these upgrades are no big deal.

Apple Introduces Cheapest iPad Yet, Special Edition Red iPhone

More stories by Alex Webb
<https://wwwbloomberg.com/authors/AQjTH3FjSCY/alex-webb>

Apple Inc. <https://www.bloomberg.com/quote/AAPL:US> introduced a
revamped version of its most popular-sized iPad at the cheapest
price yet, and a shiny red iPhone 7, whose sales will help to
combat AIDS.

Apple unveiled a new 9.7-inch iPad with a brighter Retina display
starting at $329, and a special edition red-aluminum finish iPhone
7 and iPhone 7 Plus, part of the company’s decade-long partnership
with (RED), which contributes to the Global Fund to fight HIV and AIDS.

“Since we began working with (RED) 10 years ago, our customers have
made a significant impact in fighting the spread of AIDS through
the purchase of our products, from the original iPod nano
(PRODUCT)RED Special Edition all the way to today’s lineup of Beats
products and accessories for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch,” Apple
Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook said in a statement
<wlmailhtml://news/terminal/ON6020MEQTXJ> Tuesday.

Apple is the world’s largest corporate donor to the Global Fund,
contributing more than $130 million, the company said.

Apple is expected to reveal a significant upgrade to the iPhone
later this year.
Cupertino, California-based Apple last year unveiled a new iPhone
which reignited sales growth in the Christmas quarter after a year
of declines. Those falling sales came even as Apple introduced a
cheaper handset in March in an effort to spur growth in emerging
markets. The only sales growth in the 2016 fiscal year came from
the services business, which includes Apple Music and the App
Store, and the other products category.

Apple shares rose less than one percent to $142.55 at 10:24 a.m. in
New York. Earlier they hit a new intraday high of $142.80.

The new iPad starts at $329 for 32GB with Wi-Fi and $459 for 32GB
Wi-Fi plus cellular. It will be available to order starting March
24 in the U.S. and more than 20 other countries and regions. The
iPhone (RED) models will be available in 128GB and 256GB models
starting at $749 from March 24. Apple also announced new storage
capacity for the iPhone SE. That 4-inch display model will now be
available in 32GB and 128GB models, doubling the current capacity
and replacing the previous models.

Other product launches Tuesday include a new app called Clips
<http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2017/03/21Apple-Introduces-Clips-The-Fun-New-Way-to-Create-Expressive-Videos-on-iOS.html>,
that helps people combine video clips, photos and music that can be
shared through social media and messages. Apple also said its Swift
Playgrounds iPad app, which helps students learn to code, is
available in five additional languages: Japanese, French, German,
Spanish and simplified Chinese.
